Admission

Tibhuvan University (TU) has already started M. Sc. in Biodiversity and Environmental Management at Central Department of Botany from 2008. The objective is to provide opportunities to students from Nepal, India and China, to make them competent to undertake independent research on biodiversity and environmental issues, for pursing Ph. D. degree. The degree introduces student a four semesters (to be completed in two years) dynamic combination of new courses research, training, lectures and field research undertaken by expert from T. U., Government and non-governmental organizations in Nepal as well as international experts including University of Bergen and the region (China and India), and thesis writing for upscaling academic competency and professional career. The programme is supported by the Norwegian center for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU) Under the Norad's Programme for Master Studies (NOMA). The degree will be awarded by Tribhuvan University, Nepal after completing 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). 

Eligibility 

  • Candidates holding a two to three years Bachelors degree plus M. Sc. Degree or four years Bachelors degree in Biological Science (Botany, Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Agriculture, Wildlife) from an accredited university are eligible to apply.

  • Applicants should submit an English Language Proficiency in TOEFL (215/300 or 550/667) or IELTS (Above 5.5/7) at the time application.

  • Candidate having job should submit a letter certifying her/his leave for study.  

Numbers of seats

There are 14 seats for the programme (two for Indians, two for Chinese and ten for Nepalese candidates, including two seats for permanent staff of TU). Fifty percent of all categories seats are allocated for female candidates.

Scholarship: There is the provision of scholarship. 

Tuition fee: NRs. 30,000/ per semester for all candidates. There is a provision of partial waives in tuition fee to the marginalized, poor and meritorious students. 

Admission fee: In addition to tuition fee, NRs. 10,000, and deposit of NRs. 20,000 (refundable) should be paid during admission. 

Selection Procedure

  • Submission of application form: December, 1 to 31, 2009.

  • Entrance examination: 3/4th week of January 2009( date will be announced)

  • Result of Short listed candidates: One week later

  • Presentation/Group discussion: Immediately after short listing.

  • Final list of selected candidates and Admission: February first week.

Required documents 

  • Attested copies of all academic credentials, TOEFL or IELTS certificate, and work experiences.

  • An essay (not exceeding 1200 words) mentioning in your motivation to study the subject.

  • Submit published articles to demonstrate the writing skill in English.
