MSc Program

Classes and Students
The M.Sc. program is of two years’ (M.Sc. I and II) duration with a university examination at the end of each year. Thirty students are enrolled every year under one shifts in the first year (35 students).
An applicant seeking admission to M.Sc. Botany must have a B.Sc. degree and appear in an Entrance Examination. The admission of the students is based on the merit list (80% of the entrance exam and 20% of B.Sc. marks). In the second year, fourteen students in each special paper are admitted on the basis of merit cum choice. Generally the admission process starts in October-November, with an annual examination in December-January.

Courses
The two-year M.Sc. course covers theory and practice. The first year course has four theory and two practical courses, each carrying 100 marks, that cover the general aspects of botany. Second year students are exposed to special papers and dissertation work. The second year course includes two theory papers from five subjects, each carrying 100 marks and two practical courses, each carrying 50 marks. Finally, 100 marks are allocated to either dissertation or an elective course. This course structure provides the student a firm background in the essentials of plant science along with a specialization in his or her personal field of interest.
